We work on all styles of music. One aspect of our work that we enjoy the most is geting to work with all types of creative people. We appreciate everything it has taken for our clients to get to the point of working with a professional mastering engineer. Whether this is your first record or your 10th, you deserve rigorous attention to detail and respect for your music.
Mastering is a balance between the technical and the artistic. The technical side of mastering involves understanding the needs and requirements of the manufacturer, and being able to deliver the best possible master for the best manufacturing results. The articstic side involves trying to accomplish a similarity in sonic presentation, a cohesion. What we are looking for as a result, is an album that feels balanced – not only in tonality and level, but also in its translatability. Every playback system, whether it be headphones, car, home, etc. has a unique sound. When we achieve translatability, the music sounds as best as it can on as many different types of playback systems as possible. A good representational master with well balanced material will play well, no matter where you listen to it. Mastering is an investment in the long term presentation and viability of your project. Good mastering can help you make a record that stands the test of time.
We are happy to have clients come to the studio for a complimentary consultation prior to booking their session, to talk about their music, and listen to a representative selection. This way, we can confirm that there are no problems in the mix and that they are ready for mastering. It’s important to have the mix as finished as possible, since in mastering, we can adjust tonal relationships between the left and right channels, but we have a limited amount of influence over individual sounds. Ideally, the mastering session is where we focus on polishing the final set of mixes ~ taking a colllection of songs, and turning them into a focused, cohesive body of work.
